I started playing basketball when I was 10 years old. Sports not only gave me a purpose in life but also provided me an opportunity to express myself.
I was fortunate enough to find a good mentor and invested my energy into sports, my favorite and the most significant passion. Under the guidance of my proficient teacher and through my dedication, my life was transformed. Sports empowered me not only to become stronger physically, but also mentally.
My turning point came when my coach assigned me to help him instruct junior trainers. This opportunity enhanced my knowledge of the fundamental mechanics of sports coaching and teaching and inspired me to pursue higher education in the field of physical education. I got admission at the LNIPE university where I studied different educational methodologies, sports training principles and picked up finer points of teaching. Moreover, I was recognized as the best student in the sports diploma course by the Sports Authority of India. Finally, as an intern, I had the opportunity to be an assistant coach of the Indian army.
Upon graduation, I took the job of a physical education teacher in TSIS International School, Thailand. I was quick to adapt to the new country, its culture and diverse student population of different nationalities, religion and ethnicity. . While they were keen learners and had great potential to excel, in my view, they lacked fitness, skills and belief in themselves. I began with making a good connection with students, facilitating an environment where students were encouraged to design their own fitness program and take the ownership of their skill development. Under my supervision students organized several summer, outdoor, and leadership events to develop their mental and leadership skills. The students made steady progress within a short span of time and learned to take charge of their own learning.
Most of my experience up till now was with older students and I always had this desire to work with students at an early age and see them progress through the years. I also wanted to add classroom teaching in my repertoire. My this desire was fulfilled when I got an opportunity to work with the elementary level students at Chadwick International School. It gave me a platform to understand my students from a different set of perspective. Very quickly I learned how to develop curriculum, unit of inquiry, collaborate with teachers, parents and the society. As a teacher I strongly believe in making strong connections with my students. I believe in creating a safe teaching environment where students feel free to inquire, explore and learn. I do not intend to teach facts but rather strive to inspire students towards the path of exploration and self-learning- a valuable lesson I discovered in my own life.
I keep myself abreast with the latest in my field through continuous professional developments and provide my students with the best that is available in terms of systematic and scientific training. The playground is a genuine place for acquiring crucial life-skills. At the playground one can learn to win gracefully, embrace reversals with pride, and cooperate through teamwork. The results are immediate and real. I have a great desire to explore new avenues in my field, discover ideas, learn and teach.
